Don't take your passengers with you.

This book is a good wake-up call to the dangers pilots put there passengers, and those on the ground, in by thinking they can do it all by themselves. It has the usual war stories of "There is was upside down at 20,000 feet..." but integrates a good overview of CRM into the discission and lets you see for yourself how effective CRM could have prevented all the accidents, incidents, and felony stupids sighted.
A quick read about three hours and has a good index (what can I say, a text book without a good index is worthless). I gave the book four stars because some of the chapters are written by guest authors resulting in some lack of consistency. Also a bibliography would have been nice.
I have also thumbed through some of the other books in this series. The series appears to be a must read for any one in the aviation community who is serious about flight safety.

There are so many mistakes in this book, average 1 per page in the math formulas, in the answer pages. Things don't match up. Did anyone bother editing this book? I can't believe thenumber of mistakes.

Difficult Text

I really dislike this textbook. The topics are often convoluted and difficult to understand, the examples do not always make sense, and the review questions take forever to figure out. This is somthing I would buy only if I already understood the mathematics and general information behind Pharmacokinetics and Biopharmaceutics. Being new to the field, this book was a poor choice.

Not all that great. Too broad.

First of all, I can't believe how stupid my fellow peers are. This is NOT the place to comment about your seller. Can't you read? Some of you are going to be future pharmacists? Hope you aren't practicing in my state.

That being said, I was disappointed in the book. I felt that my professor covered subjects more adequately than this book did. It was simplified and, like another reviewer mentioned, all over the place. My professor did admit that it wasn't the best book out there for biopharmaceutics, but it was decent. It's simplified, so it will probably help you get started with your studies. You do want supplemental reading though if your professor isn't that great. (Thankfully mine was.)

Good book for self-assessment.

I found this book useful. It contains around 400 MCQs (choose-the-best-answer format), including matching questions. At the end of each chapter is corresponding answers, a reference to the text where you can find the background of the answer, and a short discussion of various issues raised by the question.
Most of the questions are based on case scenarios. In addition, many questions are accompanied by x-rays, diagrams, and ECG.
Chapters include: Allergy & Immunology, Infectious Disease, Rheumatology, Pulmonary Medicine, Cardiology, Endocrinology & Metabolic Disease, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Hematology & Oncology, Neurology, Dermatology, Prevention & other Topics.

Stick with MKSAP

The answers to the questions are the strength of this book. The questions themselves are much less clinical than the scenarios seen in MKSAP or Case Files. Overall, the book is closer to Step 1 prep than Shelf or Step 2. With the IM Shelf being one of the most difficult to finish in the alloted time, practice with clinical vignettes--as opposed to matching and 2 line scenarios--is more realistic and high yield. Buy MKSAP and Case Files instead.

Not challenging enough

Although I generally tend to like the PreTest series, the questions in this book are not challenging enough to prepare you for either the internal medicine shelf exam or the USMLE Step 2 exam. It does fit in a lab coat pocket, though. Although it's not enough to ace the internal medicine shelf, I would recommend the Case Files series Internal Medicine text.

A total waste of your money and time

I once visited a daytrading firm here in Holland, were simply ALL the traders were loosing money. I wasn't too suprised, the traders were just beginners and simply hadn't yet acquired the needed knowledge and skills to succeed. I spoke to the manager about this, he told to me: "Well, if trading isn't going to make us money, we can still write a book and earn money that way !". I think that the writer of this book belongs to this category of 'traders'. This book consists of 270 pages, from which 220 are filled with total useless information. The other 50 pages can be usefull, but only if you're a complete beginner and in that case I strongly advice you to read some other books like "The market maker's egde" from Lukeman, which gives a beginner much more usefull information than this one.
Just a few examples:
10 pages are dedicated to 'selecting a broker', but the brokers they review are all online brokers instead of direct access brokers ! They don't even talk about direct access brokering !
One page is dedicated to the difference between "real time news" and "delayed news" ! I just can't believe that they actually assume that the reader doesn't know that 'free news' is delayed news !
I bought this book because I hoped to see some strategies focused just on the after hours market. Only 30 pages of this book are dedicated to these kind of strategies and are called 'Advanced strategies for the after-hours market'. Wow ! Let's see how advanced these strategies are: "Arbitrage the various ECN's", why didn't I think of this one ! "Observe the price at which orders are being executed", wow, didn't know that this was important ! "Always compare the prices with those at other ECNs to look for conformation", geee, thanks Mister Michael Sincere, I just never thought of this one before !
I can go on and on with these examples, the book is full of it. The writer assumes you're a complete beginner ... Maybe if you're both, this is the book for you indeed. Anyway, I returned this book, it was my first book ever that I had to return...

The Price Reflects The Content

The discounted price of this book reflects its content. For $15 it is worth the read but not much more.
One problem this book has is that it repeats information across chapters. If this repetition was removed, the size probably would be reduced by 50 pages, if not more. A sizeable amount of historical information takes up many pages. Some of it is interesting, and some of it isn't. You will have to decide for yourself. My feeling is that the author should have replaced a portion of it with screen captures related to other things, rather than write a lot of filler.
A second problem is that much of the information is dated. All authors of trading and investing encounter this same problem. The book was written when a year ago there was a raging bull market. Since the market correction (really, a crash) earlier this year, volume has declined during regular hours and after hours. This lack of liquidity in the current bear market makes it more difficult to trade after hours.
Lastly, as an actual trader, I can tell you that no beginner should be trying to trade in the after hours market. It is ironic that many newcomers want to trade after hours because of their full time job commitment.
Would I recommend this book? Yes, but with reservations. I believe anyone who intends to be successful at trading should read as much as possible. New traders should buy it, be entertained, and learn a few new things about this specialized area of trading.

Hardcover Softball..

I was really disappointed in this book. I read his other one.."Long Term Daytrader", which I liked. That was a softcover, while this is a hardcover. I think what most of these authors are doing now is being redundant and just filling space to make the extra pages for a hardcover, so they can get the extra money. So far I've found the most knowledge in the softcovers..and at a better price too! For my money, Toni Turner's "Beginning Guide to Daytrading Online" was a MUCH better read, and was more informative too. It won't tell you much about Afterhours, but it'll give you as much or more trading savy for less money! Not as redundant either. Authors please...if you can't fill a Hardcover..don't!!

Bernard T. Lewis is a recognized leader in facilities management and the author of McGraw-Hill’s Facility Manager’s Operation and Maintenance Handbook and Facility Manager’s Portable Handbook. Dr. Lewis owns and manages a facilities management consultant firm that specializes in facilities engineering management problem-solving. His clients have included the Charles E. Excellent Help for the CCIE certification.

Learning to troubleshoot, whether it's hardware or software or router for that matter, requires and understanding of the way troubleshooting works. Cormac Long put together and excellent reference manual to make sure you have the ability to make router work with little help.
In the first three chapters you get material on testing and diagnostics and the tools you'll need. Chapters 4 & 5 take on topics like serial communications, X.25 and frame relay. Finally in chapters 7 & 8 comes the routing protocols like RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF and BGP. There is also trouble-shooting help for other operating systems like Novell, AppleTalk, and IBM and switched Ethernet. Long includes review questions, hands-on exercises as well as diagrams, figures, tables and screen shots.
Overall a very complete reference manual to have with you.

Surely the best book I have seen on this subject.

This is an excellent book. It covers a broad range of subjects, IP, other desktop protocols, all the different LAN and WAN media as well as Ethernet switching. The amount of information contained is vast. What really impresses me is that it is not just theory. The author gives an abundance of real-world information that could only have been gained by experience. He walks you through numerous, often complex, networking scenarios and explains everything step by step. He also gives valuable insights into the finer points. The sections on OSPF, BGP, Frame Relay and IPX are simply the best pieces of text I have seen. This book is an excellent on the job reference as well as helping CCIE candidates.

This book helped me pass the CCIE lab!

I passed the CCIE lab 2 months ago. I fortunately bought this book in April and it was my number one reference by far! Packed with complex configurations and troubleshooting scenarios. All are explained in a detailed step by step manner. It covers everything EIGRP,OSPF,BGP,DLSW,IPX,Apple the works. I feel the need to express my gratitude to the author especially when I saw a review that is completely at odds with the other glowing reviews. I notice this reviewer (unlike the other ones) gives no information as to why they formed this opinion... Interesting... Anyway, my advice is simple- don't ignore a book that could help change your career, like it did mine.

Concise and thorough intro to relational database concepts

This book is ideal for those of us who need to refresh knowledge and skills of relational databases that may have been unused for a few years, or for people who need to understand relational database concepts in a hurry.
It starts with concepts that are essential to understanding relational databases, then introduces you to SQL. If you are working with Oracle you will find that standard SQL and Oracle's SQL*Plus are quite different in that SQL*Plus has a richer set of verbs. Regardless, the intro to SQL is valuable and it provides you with the ability to write queries for real world needs. The examples will work with DB2, Oracle of any other database that will understand standard SQL, making this book product-independent and invaluable.
The sections that I especially liked covered normalization and entity-relationship models. These are basic knowledge factors that are essential to understanding relational databases, and are the heart and soul of the book.
This book's value is that it's straightforward and presents a lot of material in a short number of pages. It is not for non-technical people in my opinion because the writing is sparse and terse. However, if you have an understanding of data or want a fast refresh this book will save you time by cutting through the fluff.

Typos and omissions

This text is littered with typos. The narrative is dry and difficult to read; the authors seem to walk all over themselves trying to over-explain things rather than just taking the time to find the most concise and understandable way to say them. They use nonstandard symbols in their technical descriptions, and some symbols are simply not explained at all.

I am not very impressed with this book. I am basically skimming through it to pick up the basic concepts and I will explore them on my own without the help of this book.

A very broad & not very useful overview

This outline is to broad and too shallow to be that useful. The outline tries to cover SQL, database theory, functional dependencies, normalization, database security, the entity relationship model, and throw in an MS Access example screen every now and then - all in just 250 brief pages. I hate to give the book two stars, because that usually indicates a book is pretty useless, but I feel I'd be a little too kind in giving it three stars too. My advice is to go with an introductory book like "Databases Demystified", and then get a book dedicated to SQL and learn that language separately. I prefer "Learning SQL", published by O'Reilly and Associates. If you want more advanced material on database theory after that, C.J. Date's book, "An Introduction to Database Systems", is a good one.

So much for Shakespeare

I read this book with much anticipation, excited to see how the author was going to link Shakespeare's works with communication skills. I must say that I was sorely disappointed.
As an active Toastmaster of 3 years and an avid reader of various communication books, I feel there is nothing new worth learning from this book.
1. Most points are obviously emulating the Toastmasters basic project manual or basically any other ordinary communications book that you can pick off a shelf in any bookstore. Points brought up mention stuff like speech organisation, sincerity, body language and vocal variety. That is fine if these points had been elaborated in more detail rather than sweepingly carried across. This makes the book feel more like a teaser on various communication techniques - just a teaser - meaning no real content, just words to trigger your interest (that is, if you are a complete novice AND not a Toastmaster).
2. I was wondering how the book would link its contents to Shakespeare. What happened was that the author simply peppered LOTS of quotes from various Shakespearean works throughout every page, and I mean a LOT. What makes it more disappointing is that the meaning behind the quotes are never really explored in detail as to how it could possibly give us some lessons in communicating well. In that retrospect, this book violates the very essence of good communication skills - Purposeful Actions. The author did the action of putting lots of quotes in, just so that this book could be hyped as the "Say it like Shakespeare" book. Unfortunately, since these quotes were not properly weaved into the content, nor were proper lessons that readers could learn from these quotes identified or highlighted adequately, these quotes tend to stuck out like a sore thumb in the book AND became part of UNPURPOSEFUL content.
3. As mentioned earlier, the content being more of a teaser, just informs but doesn't help you in any way of application. Plus you tend to question its credibility cos of its vagueness in explanation and its content being the sort of content that you can even pick off freely from any Internet site.
My conclusions are:
1. If you are a complete beginner and just want to KNOW (but not understand nor apply) what is supposed to be touted as common good communication practices, read this book.
2. If you have some experience in public speaking, and/or have read many communication mantras already, give this book a miss - you will find that you can reap nothing new in terms of knowledge for this.
3. If you are a strategist interested in seeing how Shakespeare can be a useful tool in teaching you good communication skills - just like how some people are interested in how Sun Tzu's military strategies can be applied to business - forget this book. You'll only be greeted with numerous quotes of Shakespeare WITHOUT explanations or links.

The Bard for All Occasions

Tom Leech's book, "Say It Like Shakespeare" is an absolute gem - and definitely a keeper. In the short time in which I've owned the book, I have used it in lectures, classes, and even social occasions. Surely Shakespeare himself must be delighted to know his words ring true for so many instances in this 21st century. This wonderful book shall have a place of honor among the reference books I use most often. However, this is the only one that continually amuses, confounds, and inspires. I certainly hope that Mr. Leech will soon be publishing more.

Shakespeare Would Like This Book

I always figured that Shakespeare was a wise man, but never did I fully grasp how practical and timeless his messages were until I saw them used to emphasize Tom Leech's strategies for better communication. This is one of those ideas that is so obvious and logical that you wonder why it never was thought of before. Leech has taken his obviously in-depth knowledge of communication in business and linked it to some of the bard's most brilliant aphorisms. The end result is an easy read and an enhanced understanding of what we all need to do in order to communicate more effectively. Even the most experienced speakers need to take a look at this volume for, as stated in Julius Caesar, "Methinks there is much reason in his sayings."
