that wasn't the worse, when I told to myself

When this book arrived to me, the first thing that I did was to read about ADX, some rationale about it, how to calculate it, etc. What did I find? Half a page about "interpretation" no only about ADX, but also about +DI, -DI, DX, and ADXR. Nevertheless, that wasn't the worse, when I told to myself: "well, how can I calculate it", I found that I must purchase the "A to Z Companion Spreadsheet" to learn how to do it. I am very disappointed. Considering that was my first experience with this book, I don't know what else surprises I will find.

Technical tool encyclopedia

If you are looking for a technical tool reference book for your investing/trading library this is the one. This book covers (in alphabetical order) every trading tool I am aware of including the O' Neal CAN SLIM method, trend lines, volume, stochastics, Williams %R, every kind of moving average, candlestick charting, decline/advance, oscillators and just about everything else you will run across in trading stocks. The author gives an overview of the indicator, the interpretation, an example, then shows how to calculate it with the mathematical formulas used and a table for reference. I read this book from cover to cover and learned a great deal. I believe it is a must have for beginners if you are serious about using technical tools to time your trades correctly at proper buy points.

Perfect as a beginner's guide as well as a desktop reference

This book serves well as a one-shot reference to the vast array of technical indicators, and perhaps this is the only single book that can claim to have achieved this. The mathematical level is kept simple and accessible to all, even though I would have preferred to see more formulas of the complicated indicators that got skipped (like Swing Index). Surprisingly, the formula for the highly popular Relative Strength Index is not amplified on. Nevertheless, this is *the* starting book for the beginner as well as a means of introduction into more complex indices. The book introduces the reader to all fundamental market concepts and "forces" with amazing simplicity and lucidity without sacrificing accuracy.

About the Author
CLINT SMITH, P.E., is Vice President of Technical Services for the Systems Engineering Division of o2wireless. He has extensive experience in both RF and network design and optimization engineering in cellular, PCS, LMDS, and ESMR communication systems using Lucent, Ericsson, Nortel, Motorola, and Netro equipment. He has been responsible for system-wide design and optimization, specialty applications including in-building and tunnel projects, and network operations'center design and implementation. In addition to his experience with wireless operators where his last position was as Director of Engineering, NYNEX Mobile, New York City, he also has experience with equipment vendors as a Senior Engineer for Motorola Cellular Infrastructure Group. He has authored numerous articles appearing in industry trade journals and is the author of LMDS: LOCAL MULTIPOINT DISTRIBUTION SERVICE, WIRELESS TELECOM FAQs, PRACTICAL CELLULAR AND PCS DESIGN, and the co-author of CELLULAR SYSTEM DESIGN AND OPTIMIZATION. Clint holds a Masters in Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. He is also a registered professional engineer.

DANIEL COLLINS has worked in the telecommunications industry for over 14 years. He spent approximately 9 years with Ericsson in various countries, including Ireland, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. During that time he worked extensively with both wireline and wireless network technologies. He helped to develop and deploy 2G wireless systems in Europe, he played a major role in the adaptation of GSM standards for use in the United States, and he has a major contributor to the launch of some of the earliest PCS networks.

Since leaving Ericsson, Mr. Collins has worked for a new telecommunications carrier, and, more recently, as an independent consultant. In a consultancy capacity, he has provided wireless and VoIP engineering expertise to numerous customers in North America and Europe. He is currently engaged as Chief 3G Network Architect by one of the largest wireless carriers in North America and is responsible for the design of a new 2.5G/3G nationwide network.

Mr. Collins is the author of CARRIER GRADE VOICE over IP, published by McGraw-Hill. He holds a degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the National University of Ireland.

Excellent book for those new to wireless

Its a pretty good book for those who are new to wireless and even those who'd like to learn more. It covers 1G, 2G, 2.5G and 3G wireless networks and various air interfaces used and/or are proposed for these networks. It gets over the ambiguities of various 3GPP releases and clearly describes each release (99, 2000-4, and 2000-5) and their associated network reference model. There is also plenty of good description on various 2G radio access standards (AMPS, TMDA, CDMA, GSM, WCDMA, CDMA2000) and their associated network reference models. While it doesn't have in-depth coverage of any particular wireless topic, it attempts to give a broad overview on everything wireless and provides plenty of references for readers to follow up.

A Review From A Wireless Capacity Planning Mgr.'s Perspectiv

I thought this book gives an excellent overview at the 10,000 foot level of all the related technologies. It's perfect for someone in either a Technical Manager or a Senior Manager role to understand the basic vibe of what these technologies are and how they work without getting bogged down into too much "bits and bytes" level detail.
I found the book to be a bit lacking on some dimensioning and planning details and methodologies though.
Overall, it's a good book to reference with.

About the Author
James S. Wolper is Professor of Mathematics at Idaho State University and a professional pilot and flight instructor. He is also on the computer science and environmental engineering faculties at ISU. He has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Brown University. His research has been supported by NASA and by the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research.

An airline transport-rated pilot and flight Instructor with single engine, multi-engine, and instrument ratings, he has more than 2900 hours of flight experience, including aerial fire suppression, air ambulance flights, and over 800 hours as a flight instructor for primary and advanced students.

He is the author of numerous technical articles and reviews, but this is his first book.

Good for getting to know things from a different point of view.

While Richard's comment about the book might be true, I (private pilot currently doing instrument rating) found the book very interesting in the way that it introduces much of what I already knew (and much of what I didn't) from a completely new point of view. The thing is, pilots are confined in their own way of thinking, and fairly often know much less about the mathematical part of navigation than would be desirable. I personally felt my private pilot ground school was baby talk, the textbooks did not contain enough about mathematics, and it felt good to read something that assumes the reader went to at least high school.

That being said, the mathematics in the book are not scary, I felt the author intentionally did not use anything more complicated than high school math (mostly simple trigonometry), which he also said in the beginning of the book. My math was quite average in high school, and never really dealt with it anymore in university, and it still did not take too much effort to understand most of the book. It did require some brain work to follow the calculations, though. The most mathematical part of the book is the second chapter, "Vectors and Spheres", where I had to skip some of the calculations. The book could have used a little more explanation in this part, but I must admit, had I not been a little lazy, I could have looked up the necessary knowledge in a couple of days.

I am the kind of person who likes to ask a lot of "why?" questions in my head, and this book gave me answers to a number of them.

I imagine the book could be equally interesting for math students, as it gives meaning to the numbers - something I missed a lot in mathematics. While to me it was definitely the first half of the book that contained most of the new things, to them it might be the other way round.

A Decent Introduction to Aircraft Navigation

So you know where I'm coming from, I'm an aeronautical engineer with a background in aircraft design and flight mechanics, and I also fly recreationally and hold a commercial license with an instrument rating. Overall I thought the book was Ok. I cannot not recommend it, but I'm struggling with who this book is really for. In some respects, the book tries to do too much. In other respects, I'm not sure it does enough. For those pilots who are looking for a little mathematical background on what's going on in ground school and in the cockpit, this may be the book for you. But if you don't have a strong math background, you may feel frustrated even though things like the dot and cross product are explained fairly well and even derived. But like practicing navigation, if you haven't practiced deriving and using the dot and cross products on your own so that you truly understand them, it may be overwhelming. I don't know if the paper version has more and better graphics, but I found the Kindle edition to be lacking in quality and number of graphics to properly explain some of the concepts. I do laud the author for emphasizing the need to practice these things in the cockpit. It's one thing to plot a running fix on a chart table with parallel rules on a bridge (how I learned) and quite another in a cramped cockpit with turbulence when you finally just throw the plotter away and advance the fix with thumbs (for me about 5nm wide on a sectional chart) and fingers and "that looks about right". There may be one error in the book although I haven't gone back to verify. In the section on celestial nav, there is an example about how to use time to compute longitude. If local noon occurs at 1900 (7PM) GMT or ZULU, then you are 7hrs *west* of Greenwich. With a time zone being 15 deg or 1 hour wide, 7hrs * 15deg/hr = 105 degrees west of Greenwich somewhere along the longitude of Denver not 75 deg east.

Just another book in a sea of many

I originally thought that this book would do a better job of addressing the needs of Internet entrepreneurs (emphasis on the word "Internet"), but it's just another book on business plan writing; the only difference is that ".com" has been added to boost sales. As a business planning book, it's not that it's a bad book, per se, it's just not an extraordinary one.
For starters, it's not 240 pages, as advertised; it's only 190. And of that 190, almost a third is the same list of resources and references that every other book provides. Does the entrepreneur really need to be told ad nauseam that the SBA is a good source of information? And I was really shocked to see that addressing the technology related to running an Internet business was covered in less than one full page.
The bottom line is that if you don't already own a business plan book, this is as good as any other. If you already have such a book, save yourself [the money] and skip this one.

Fund that internet Idea. This is a must have!

Being in the tech industry any successful person is tempted to start their own company. I bought this book because I wanted to know what it takes to start my own Internet business. Coming up with an idea was the easy part. Selling it to people and getting it funded isn't. It's hard to know where to even start. This "How to Write a .com Business Plan" book provided exactly the information that I needed. The advice from successful entrepreneurs was especially useful. I now have a much better understanding of the process and what I need to do. If you have a good idea but don't know how to take it to the next level this book is a must have!

Outdated and very limited

This was written at the height of the internet bubble and does very little to help one figure out the specifics that need to be in a business plan, especially in the current market. This is very generalized and is geared towards 2 types of simple mom and pop type internet businesses. I realize one book cannot cover all of the possibilities but this book hardly deserves the subtitle "Everything You Need to Know..."

Good, but definitely biased!

This is required reading for the history of TC nursing. It does a good job at informing the reader of the birth of modern TC nursing as described by the self-titled expert, M. Leininger. However...it descends into a narcissistic love-fest, and quite frankly gets a bit much to take.

The sections on individual cultures are well done, and the inclusion of the Sunrise Model is helpful.

This book was written by a true pioneer in the field of nursing across cultures. Madeleine Leininger not only recognized the challenges nurses faced working with people from different cultures, but also intuitively knew she needed to explore how to bridge the gaps in communication and understanding across cultures. I found her research profound and her findings brilliantly simple, to know something about the people being treated and continue to learn from them. I believe every nursing program in every school should require this text.
Leininger's work has both enlightened and enhanced my Masters research on continuing education for healthcare workers, as the evolution of culture change in the field transpires.

great book, using it to review for the boards. the pics of pediatric rashes are particularly helpful. it is a bit lacking on the radiology side of things, and i wish this book had a section on spinal trauma, especially c-spine injuries. (hint, hint, for the next edition) otherwise a great reference to have.

Awesome book!

I am an Emergency Medicine physician who, to be honest, doesn't like to read. I think I bought two books in all of medical school (granted, I never missed a lecture- and really learn well when taught). But this book is pretty easy to read and educational to look at! It's a good book to keep on your shelf, and I used it for Board review when I was tired of studying other things. I would highly recommend this book to EM residents as well.
